For me, photography has never simply been about taking a picture. It is about capturing a moment, telling a story and creating an image that stays with you long after you have looked away.
My relationship with photography began long before I ever considered calling myself a photographer. Some of my earliest influences came from my father, who introduced me to the art of seeing the world through a lens, and from the photographic heritage of my grandfather's studio, Kugan Studio in Point Pedro, Sri Lanka. Growing up with that connection gave photography a deeper meaning for me. It taught me that a photograph can preserve far more than an image it can preserve a person, a place, an emotion and a moment in history.
Creativity would eventually lead me to the London College of Fashion, where I graduated and went on to build a 17-year career specialising in women's eveningwear and bridalwear. Fashion taught me to understand proportion, composition, texture, movement and, above all, attention to detail. It also taught me that the smallest elements can completely transform the final result a philosophy that remains at the heart of my photography today.
Over time, my fascination with photography developed into a passion of its own. I became particularly drawn to portraiture and fashion editorial photography, bringing together my understanding of fashion with my love of visual storytelling. My work has since been internationally published across 14 countries, an achievement that has allowed my images to reach audiences far beyond where my photographic journey first began.
Whether I am photographing a portrait, creating a fashion editorial or standing somewhere thousands of miles from home waiting for the perfect moment, my approach remains the same: look closer, notice what others might overlook and create something that stands out. I am meticulous about composition, light, expression and detail, but I also believe some of the most powerful photographs happen when you allow a moment to unfold naturally.
Travel opened another chapter in my photography. Exploring different countries, landscapes, cultures and communities gave me an entirely new canvas for storytelling. Those experiences eventually became Miles & Moments, my published collection of travel photography and short stories. The book brings together images and personal observations from my journeys, capturing not simply where I have travelled, but the moments, people and experiences that made each destination memorable.
In many ways, Miles & Moments brings my story full circle. From watching and learning photography through my father and the legacy of my grandfather's studio in Point Pedro, to studying fashion in London, creating internationally published imagery and becoming a published author, every stage has shaped the way I see the world.
I am still inspired by the same thing that fascinated me at the beginning: the possibility that one frame can tell an entire story.
And I am always searching for the next one.
